FASTER, ANNIE! DRAW! PAINT!

I think I'm doing quite well with my mission to complete at least ten pieces for selection for my scholarship portfolio. In fact, my sister got a Wii for Christmas and she keeps tempting me to play. But I won't! Because I am determined to get this work done. Plus, my fingers still hurt from Guitar Hero.

Here's another sneak peek of my latest work. I will definitely, definitely get proper photos and scans soon. And by "soon", I mean "eventually".

Winter Break Still.

PBS is showing Terry Gilliam's personal bests from Monty Python's Flying Circus and I want to stay up and watch it while I paint, but I also have a 3:30AM beach adventure coming up and I should probably get all the sleep I can get beforehand. What to do, what to do...

I say... Paint until I fall asleep at my desk and then show up to the beach with gouache in my hair.

By the way, I am no longer selling "prints" of this because A) the stencil is looking super-sad and B) I'm in Florida and the stencil is in Baltimore. Thanks for your support!

And to wrap this up, here are some artist websites I've been admiring lately: Marguerite Sauvage, Joy Ang, Annette Marnat. If you know of an artist that you think I might like, please send me a link! I love looking at other artists' sites and blogs.

SNEAKY, SNEAKY.

I'm currently in Florida, on Winter Break. The "break" means nothing, though, because I'm still hard at work, trying to put together a decent portfolio of work for scholarship consideration in February. I'm not fond of most of my pieces from this year, so I'm trying to do at least ten new drawings or paintings from which I can pick and choose.

Here's a look at my current workspace (complete with little Flickr Notes). This is also a sneak peek of some recently completed pieces that I will photograph and upload later.

Winter Break.

Happy holidays, everyone.

DOT DOT DOT.

I have a Modernism & After final exam on Tuesday. I took a break from reading about Fauvism and Picasso's wacky antics to practice that lineless art technique that I completely botched here. What resulted was a weird self-portrait. It's obviously very, very different from the stuff I usually do.

Dot Dot Dot.

In other news, finals are officially killing me. My Illustration I assignment was actually due on Friday and I was the only one that didn't show up to class with anything. I've been working really hard on that final (creating four pages of a comic book) but ended up hating everything that I had done. Terrible. I'm trying to re-do everything for a late turn-in this upcoming Friday. I have a sneaking suspicion my work is still going to be crap. I talked to my teacher after class and blurted out something that pretty much sums up how I feel about everything I do:

"... BUT IT LOOKS SO MUCH COOLER IN MY HEAD!"

One more week of this nonsense and then Winter Break will kick in. I plan to make a few special pieces while I'm in Florida during Break to include in my annual scholarship portfolio. I think the scholarship prize will probably be just as small as it was last year, but every little bit helps. The idea of the school giving scholarship money sort of feels like someone punching me repeatedly in the face and then gently placing a band-aid across my cheek. And then proceeding to punch me with increased fervor.
